This mid-nineteenth century silver-plated coffee pot displays the ornate styling of the Victorian Rococo Revival period. The silver body features intricate floral chasing, an engraved stag crest to the front, and a gadrooned base, complemented by a domed lid with a textured pineapple finial and a shaped dark wood scroll handle. The piece stands 29 cm high and measures 24 cm wide. In a contemporary home, this traditional vessel sits well upon a dining room sideboard top as a decorative or functional display piece during tea and coffee service. The sturdy wooden handle offers a practical grip, and the heavy-gauge silver plate includes very slight surface wear appropriate to its age and handling.

Mid-19th century Victorian coffee pots frequently incorporate Rococo Revival influences, characterised by ornate scrollwork, botanical repousse chasing, and carved handles designed to resist heat transmission. During this period, electroplating technology expanded access to silver-plated hollowware alongside traditional Sheffield plate.

These vessels were typically crafted from base metals such as nickel silver or copper, which were electroplated with pure silver. Handles were commonly carved from dense hardwoods or turned from ivory or bone to act as natural heat insulators.

Authentic pieces generally display manufacturer stamps or electroplate quality marks such as EPNS or EPBM near the base or rim. Look for hand-chased ornamentation, hand-engraved armorial crests, and natural wear where base metal shows through high-friction surfaces.

An antique silver coffee pot serves as a focal piece on a dining room sideboard, inside a glazed cabinet, or arranged on a wooden kitchen island tray alongside neutral stoneware.

Maintain silver plate by wiping with a soft cotton cloth and gentle silver polish formulated for plated items. Avoid abrasive cleansers or dip solutions that can strip thin silver layers, and dry thoroughly to prevent tarnishing and spotting.
