This George V sterling silver tea caddy is an Edwardian piece made by William Hutton & Sons in Birmingham in 1910. The solid silver object has a cylindrical body, a stepped shoulder, a pull-off cap, and visible hallmarks, finished in a bright silver colour. The photograph clearly shows the reflective polished surface of the metal, the small stamped hallmarks on both the body and the cap lid, and the circular moulded rim around the base. Measuring 11 cm in height and 7 cm in diameter, this tea canister is suitable for display on a sideboard top in a traditional or modern home setting.

During the early George V and late Edwardian periods, silver tea caddies were produced as functional containers for storing dry loose tea leaves while serving as elegant table accessories.

High-quality British tea caddies from this era were typically crafted from solid sterling silver with a purity standard of 925 parts per thousand, featuring hand-fitted covers to maintain freshness.

Authentic pieces feature struck hallmark stamps including the makers mark, the anchor symbol for the Birmingham assay office, the lion passant for sterling silver, and a specific date letter corresponding to 1910.

An antique silver tea caddy can be displayed on a dining room sideboard, open kitchen shelving, or a coffee table tray alongside contemporary glassware to provide a metallic accent.

To prevent oxidisation and preserve the polished finish, gently wipe the silver surface with a soft cotton cloth and application of specialized silver polish, avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
