Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of late 19th-century French Rococo style wall sconces comprises two gilt bronze twin-arm fixtures designed for interior lighting. Each piece exhibits an ornate tapering backplate with opposing eagle-headed centre details and an ornate flame finial cresting, complemented by imbricated leaf-clad scrolling arms, leaf bobeche drip pans, and bulbous candle sconces featuring acanthus leaf scrollwork. The material is cast gilt bronze and brass displaying a gold colour and original crisp gilded patination. Each sconce measures 56 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 23 cm deep. Suitable for residential use, these wall lights suit a narrow wall space in a French chateau interior scheme, mounted alongside a hallway, drawing room, or dining room wall to provide ambient illumination. Each sconce is fitted with wiring and electrical candle bulbs. Included with the hardware are aged brass fixing screws and spare bulbs.

Late 19th-century French Rococo wall sconces feature asymmetrical scrollwork, acanthus leaf motifs, and flowing botanical forms inspired by 18th-century Louis XV designs. They were typically crafted in twin-arm or multi-arm configurations to reflect candlelight against gilded metal surfaces.

These sconces were primarily cast in solid bronze or brass and finished with gilding, often referred to as ormolu or fire-gilding. The arms and decorative backplates were cast in sections, hand-chased for surface detail, and assembled using threaded iron rod attachments.

Authentic period examples exhibit substantial weight, crisp hand-chased carving details on the metalwork, and natural oxidisation on non-gilded reverse surfaces. Threaded components typically feature historical thread patterns rather than modern metric pitch screws.

Pairing gilt bronze sconces on either side of a central focal point, such as an overmantel mirror, artwork, or entryway console table, provides symmetrical balance. They add tactile metallic contrast against contemporary dark or neutral painted walls.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth. Avoid water, abrasive polishes, and chemical solvent cleaners, as these can strip historical gilding and damage original patination.
