Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Adam style wall sconces derive from the 18th-century Neoclassical designs popularized by architect Robert Adam. They feature symmetrical compositions, delicate leaf motifs, husk garlands, and ribbon bow crestings inspired by classical Greek and Roman architecture.

Historically, wall lights of this style were manufactured from carved wood with water gilding, cast brass, or gilt bronze. Surface finishes typically feature gold leaf applied over a gesso ground, creating a reflective surface to maximise light distribution.

Authentic period examples display signs of hand-finishing, such as subtle hand-carving irregularities, historical mounting marks on the reverse, and natural wear on the gilding where high points reveal the underlying clay bole or gesso layer.

A matching set of four wall sconces can be positioned symmetrically around a room to frame key features, such as flanking a mantelpiece or doorway. They also function effectively spaced along a dining room wall to create balance and ambient lighting.

Gilded surfaces should be dusted gently using a soft, dry brush or feather duster. Water, liquid sprays, and chemical cleaning agents must be avoided, as moisture can dissolve the underlying gesso glue layers and cause gold leaf loss.
