FAQs

Chinoiserie lighting incorporates European artistic interpretations of East Asian decorative arts, characteristically featuring hand-painted motifs such as flora, fauna, and scenic landscapes on porcelain or ceramic bases.

These lamps were predominantly crafted from glazed ceramic, porcelain, or lacquered composite, often paired with metal plinths and topped with fabric drum or empire shades.

Look for signs of age such as gentle crazing in the glaze finish, period-appropriate electrical components, hand-applied painted details rather than modern printed decals, and makers marks or stamps on the base.

Position the lamp on a contemporary sideboard, console, or side table to introduce texture and pattern, allowing the yellow tone and botanical motifs to act as a decorative accent against neutral walls.

Dust the ceramic base gently with a soft dry microfiber cloth, avoid harsh chemical cleansers that may compromise the painted glaze, and clean the fabric shade using a lint roller or brush attachment.
