Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of sterling silver napkin rings dates from the 1930s Art Deco period and is presented in a fitted black display box lined with cream silk inside the lid and black velvet in the base. Each silver ring is formed in the shape of a lucky horseshoe, decorated with geometric stamping along the curved body and complete with matching hallmarks for Sheffield 1938 and the silversmith mark for Francis Howard. The original white paper label inside the lid reads solid silver lucky horse shoe serviette rings in blue lettering, and the hinged case fastens with a brass-coloured metal clasp at the front edge. Each piece measures 5.5 cm from top to bottom by 5 cm across, making them a suitable addition to display on a dining room sideboard top or to use for special family meals.

FAQs

Novelty silver napkin rings shaped as horseshoes gained popularity during the early to mid-20th century, as traditional equestrian motifs and symbols of good fortune were frequently integrated into dining accessories and giftware.

Authentic period examples were typically crafted from solid sterling silver, stamped with official purity hallmarks, and presented in silk- and velvet-lined fitted cases to protect the metalwork.

Authenticity is verified by British assay office hallmarks stamped into the metal, which include the lion passant for sterling purity, a specific date letter, and a silversmith makers mark.

Position these novelty silver pieces around folded linen napkins on a mahogany dining table, or display the cased set open inside a glass cabinet alongside classic tableware.

Clean the silver using a soft, non-abrasive silver polishing cloth without harsh chemical cleaners, and store the items inside their original velvet-lined presentation case to prevent oxidisation.
