This set of English Art Deco solid sterling silver napkin rings dates to the 1930 period and comes housed in a fitted presentation case. The pieces take the form of novelty horse shoes, detailed with simulated nail indentations and pointed arches at the top curves. The silver items possess a polished metallic finish set against a dark lining inside the box. Visual inspection reveals a black velvet interior base contrasted with an off-white silk lid lining, a small gold-coloured clasp on the front edge of the box, and a printed maker emblem stamped in black on the upper fabric interior. Each ring measures 4.8 cm wide by 5.3 cm across. These napkin rings suit formal dining arrangements or display on a sideboard within a traditional or modern interior setting. The boxed set functions well as a decorative table accessory during celebratory meals or gatherings, or for storage within a cabinet when not in use.

Silver napkin rings originated in 19th-century Europe to identify individual linen napkins between laundering sessions. By the early 20th century, sets were frequently crafted in decorative novelty shapes, such as equestrian motifs, as formal dining gifts.

British silver napkin rings of this period are primarily constructed from sterling silver, containing 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for durability. High-grade sets were originally presented in fitted wooden or leatherette presentation boxes lined with silk and velvet.

Authentic 1930s British sterling silver features a complete set of hallmarks: the lion passant for sterling quality, an assay office symbol, a date letter, and a maker mark. Novelty designs often show distinct period styling, such as stylized geometric or equestrian forms.

Incorporate equestrian silver items onto a formal dining table paired with crisp white linen napkins to highlight the metallic finish. They also function well displayed within a dining room dresser or on a tray alongside traditional glassware.

Clean sterling silver using a soft cloth and a specialised non-abrasive silver polish to prevent scratching. Store the pieces in their original velvet-lined presentation case or anti-tarnish cloth bags away from excessive moisture.
