Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1900s:
Cast Corinthian capital: crisp leaf modelling with old polish residue in the crevices.
Stepped plinth with cast paw feet: heavy brass construction designed for stability.
Dark oxidisation and verdigris spots on the base: natural age to the brass.
Fluted column shaft: classical revival proportions popular at the turn of the century.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A Corinthian column standard lamp is a free-standing lighting fixture featuring a vertical shaft designed after classical Ancient Greek and Roman architectural columns, complete with vertical fluting and a carved acanthus leaf capital.

Traditional examples are cast from solid brass or bronze, incorporating a heavy weighted baseoften stepped or square with decorative feetto ensure stability for the tall vertical shaft.

Authentic period lamps feature heavy cast brass construction, natural surface oxidisation or patina within detailed recesses, traditional threaded joinery, and evidence of historical rewiring to meet modern safety standards.

Position the lamp beside an armchair, reading nook, or in an empty room corner to introduce vertical scale and warm metallic tones, pairing it with a simple silk or linen shade to complement the classical proportions.

Dust the surface regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that remove natural patina; untreated brass can be gently buffed with microcrystalline wax to preserve surface tone.
