FAQs

A silver-plated toast rack with an integrated burner is a specialised piece of late Victorian and Edwardian tableware designed to keep toasted bread upright and warm using a small spirit lamp positioned beneath the frame.

These items were generally constructed from electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) for durability and sheen, often incorporating turned ebony or wooden handles to insulate against heat transmission.

Authentic pieces feature stamped maker marks such as Asprey London, hallmarks or EPNS designations, precise solder points on wire dividers, and weighted structural balance.

Beyond traditional dining table use, silver toast racks can be styled on a sideboard as decorative metalware, or repurposed on an office desk to hold letters, stationery, and business cards.

Clean gently using a non-abrasive silver polish and soft cotton cloths, taking care to avoid harsh chemicals that could strip the electroplated surface or accelerate oxidisation.
