This matching set of eight wine glasses dates from the Art Deco period of circa 1920, originating in England from Tudor Glass. The pieces take the form of clear lead crystal drinking vessels with faceted bowls, knopped stems, and starburst cut bases. Each item exhibits slice cut decoration on the sides alongside a brilliant transparent finish. There are no chips or cracks visible on the glass surfaces, maintaining a clean state across all eight matching items. They measure 16.5 cm high by 8 cm wide by 8 cm deep. Such glassware suits contemporary domestic settings for formal dining, dinner parties, or celebratory gatherings. One can position the group on a dining table, or store them upright on a sideboard top ready for service. The classic silhouette and decorative cutting make them practical for serving wine during meals while adding traditional style to cabinet displays or drinks cabinets.

FAQs

During the 1920s, stemware transitioned from heavy Victorian motifs to refined, geometric cuts reflecting the emerging Art Deco aesthetic. These pieces typically feature clear lead crystal, faceted bowls, and precision-cut bases designed to reflect light during dinner service.

Traditional cut glass stemware was manufactured using lead crystal, which allowed craftspeople to cut sharp facets into the surface without fracturing the glass. The high lead content provided optical clarity, density, and a distinctive ringing tone when tapped gently.

Authentic period stemware often displays fine hand-cut facets with distinct edges rather than rounded moulded seams. Additionally, look for hand-polished surfaces, starburst designs cut into the underside of the foot, and slight variations in dimensions consistent with hand finishing.

Cut glass stemware can be arranged on a modern sideboard, displayed on open shelving, or staged on a drinks trolley to highlight the prismatic facets. Pairing vintage clear stemware with modern ceramic dinnerware creates a balanced, textured table setting for entertaining.

Hand wash stemware individually in lukewarm water using mild detergent and a soft cloth. Avoid dishwashers and sudden temperature changes, as thermal shock can crack delicate crystal, and dry immediately with a lint-free cloth to prevent water spots.
