This heavy antique Albert chain comprises chunky graduated curb links modelled in sterling silver, featuring an attractive darkened patina, a central T-bar attachment, and a double dog clip fastening. Every link bears a lion mark with some wear, while the middle link, dog clips, link ring, and T-bar show the maker's mark G.F.B alongside the Birmingham date letter V for 1920. The piece rests inside a rectangular olive-green fabric-covered presentation box with a hinged lid and a small brass-coloured clasp at the front edge. Originally designed to attach a pocket watch to a gentleman's waistcoat, this versatile item suits modern wear as a statement necklace or a distinctive pocket chain. It measures 39.4 cm in length, with links spanning between 7.25 mm and 10 mm across, a T-bar length of 4.1 cm, and dog clips measuring 2.2 cm by 0.8 cm. It serves as a wearable historical accessory for daily attire or as a collectable piece of gentlemen's library ornamentation.

An Albert watch chain, named after Prince Albert, was traditionally used to secure a pocket watch to a waistcoat or jacket, featuring a T-bar that passed through a buttonhole.

Traditional Albert chains were constructed using solid sterling silver links, often crafted as curb or rope links, accompanied by swivel clasps and a T-bar, with individual hallmarks stamped on each link.

Authentic antique silver Albert chains typically feature British hallmarks stamped on every individual link, alongside makers marks, date letters, and original swivel clasps with period-appropriate wear.

Modern collectors style Albert chains as choker necklaces, wrap-around bracelets, or layered pendants, integrating historical jewellery into contemporary everyday fashion.

Clean sterling silver chains gently using a soft polishing cloth specifically designed for silver, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip historical patina from recessed details.
