This pair of Victorian opaline glass dwarf candlesticks dates from circa 1890 and is executed in a hand-blown glass technique. Each piece has a flared milk glass body decorated with applied trailed glass threading, featuring a pink colour on one stick and a turquoise blue colour on the other. The design incorporates a wide ruffled frilled rim at the top and a circular pedestal base in clear glass. Both items display precise horizontal glass coils wrapping around the tapered shafts and distinctive wavy folded edges along the top flares. Each candlestick stands 8 cm high with a 5.5 cm base diameter. These decorative table accessories suit placement on a mantelpiece or side table in a living room, bedroom, or dining area to hold small tapers. They integrate well into traditional or eclectic interior schemes as accent pieces on a shelf or sideboard. The pair provides a colourful display using contrasting hues of pink and blue alongside clear glass footings and white opaline bodies.

Opaline glass is a decorative, translucent or semi-opaque glass developed during the nineteenth century, often featuring added mineral pigments and hand-blown details such as trailed glass threading.

These pieces were crafted using hand-blown glass, with fine threads of coloured glass wound continuously around the molten central cone before shaping the frilled rim and circular pedestal base.

Authentic late nineteenth-century pieces typically feature pontil marks on the underside, subtle irregularities from hand-blowing, and light surface friction wear on the base rim.

Display them as a pair on a fireplace mantelpiece, dining sideboard, or open display shelf to introduce vibrant accent colours and historic glasswork texture.

Hand wash gently with lukewarm water and mild liquid soap using a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive pads and sudden thermal shifts that can induce cracking.
