This unusual decorative plate dates from the Victorian period around 1880, created by Alexander Jenkins in Edinburgh. Formed from blown latticinio glass, the piece displays a smooth rim and a circular shape measuring 15.625 cm wide. The surface showcases an intricate spiral lattice pattern created from alternating pink and white opaque canes that converge toward the centre, producing a mesmerizing optical effect across the entire body. Ideal for display on a sideboard top, this glass plate serves as an eye-catching decorative accent within a traditional or eclectic interior scheme. The delicate cane work and curved form offer a striking visual texture that highlights nineteenth-century Scottish glassmaking techniques, functioning purely as an ornamental display object for collection enthusiasts.

Latticinio glass, also known as filigree or zanfirico glass, is an Italian glassmaking technique developed in Murano during the sixteenth century. It involves fusing clear glass with spiralling threads or lattice patterns formed from white or coloured opaque glass canes.

Victorian latticinio items were constructed by arranging pre-made opaque glass rods inside a cylindrical mould, picking them up with molten clear glass, and twisting the hot glass gather to form dense, spiralled geometric patterns before shaping.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces typically feature hand-finished pontil marks on the base, slight irregularities in cane density or alignment, and appropriate surface wear consistent with age rather than uniform machine-made precision.

Latticinio glassware can be styled on a sideboard, display shelf, or console table where ambient or directional light highlights the translucent glass layers and intricate spiral work.

Hand wash antique glass using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes, abrasive pads, or dishwasher exposure to prevent thermal shock and micro-scratching.
