A solid sterling silver mug stands ready for display, shaped with a bellied body, a flared rim, and a fluted stepped base with a scalloped edge. The polished exterior shows intricate hand-chased floral motifs alongside blank cartouches, matched by a gilt interior lining and an acanthus scroll handle set to the side. Visible details include embossed decoration and clear hallmarks near the upper rim. Measuring 9 cm high, 10 cm wide, and 6.5 cm deep, this piece suits placement on a sideboard top or a decorative shelf in a living room or dining room. The heavy solid silver construction provides a durable accent for interior styling while adding traditional silverware to a table setting.

William IV silver, produced between 1830 and 1837, bridges the classical proportions of the Regency period and the elaborate ornamentation of early Victorian silver. Pieces from this era frequently feature heavy, hand-chased floral motifs, rococo scrollwork, bold cartouches, and acanthus leaf handles.

Silver mugs from the 19th century were raised from sheets of sterling silver by hand hammering, with handles cast separately and soldered into place. Intricate surface patterns were created through chasing and repousse techniques, and interior gilding was often applied to prevent corrosion from liquid contents.

Authentic British silver from this period bears a set of official hallmarks stamped by an assay office, including the monarch duty mark depicting the profile of King William IV. Look for the lion passant indicating sterling purity, a date letter, an assay town mark, and a unique makers mark.

An antique silver mug can be displayed as a standalone decorative accent on a sideboard, placed within a glazed display cabinet, or repurposed as a desk pencil holder. Grouping silver vessels of varying heights on a polished tray creates a structured, reflective vignette.

Clean sterling silver using a soft cloth and a gentle silver polish formulated specifically for historic metalwork. Avoid abrasive cleaners that strip delicate chased details, and store pieces in low-humidity environments inside tarnish-resistant cloth bags to minimise oxidisation.
