Description

Antique 20th century bureau bookcase in oak, in the Jacobean revival style, a handsome and well-proportioned piece of good quality, showcasing fine craftsmanship.

The upper bookcase has a pair of leaded glass doors with arched tops, enclosing adjustable shelves. Below, the carved fall front opens on lopers to reveal a fitted interior with pigeonholes and a small central drawer, and an inset textured writing surface. Beneath are two short drawers over a long drawer, with faceted diamond-shaped pulls.

It is richly decorated with carved scrolling foliage to the fall front and drawers, applied bobbin mouldings to the uprights and a carved upper rail, and stands on a stand with bulbous turned front legs joined by stretchers.

The oak displays a beautiful figured grain with striking medullary rays and a warm, rich colour, with a lovely aged patina.

It comes apart in two sections, with the bookcase lifting off the bureau, which makes delivery and access easier. Presented in good condition, it is a very desirable bureau bookcase, perfect for a study, hallway or living room.
