Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This English Arts and Crafts standard lamp from 1900 embodies the functional beauty of the movement through brass construction and a white fabric shade. The floor lamp stands with a telescopic height-adjustable stem rising from a fluted circular base. Twisted metal supports and ornamental scroll braces accent the column, terminating at the floor in pad feet. The flared fabric shade diffuses light across the gold metal finish, while a flexible cord with an attached plug completes the electrical components. Measuring 117 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 36 cm deep, the lamp fits easily into an empty corner or beside seating. It suits placement in a gentleman's library, living room, or study, complementing traditional and contemporary interior settings. The rewiring and PAT testing ensure safety alongside period character in daily use.

FAQs

Originating in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Arts and Crafts standard lamps are free-standing lighting fixtures crafted from metals such as brass or iron. They emphasize honest craftsmanship, visible construction details, and functional elements like height-adjustability.

These lamps are typically constructed from solid spun or cast brass, featuring weighted bases for stability, tubular stems, and decorative scrollwork or hand-twisted metal accents. Many incorporate telescoping height mechanisms secured by threaded brass collars.

Authentic period examples display natural surface patination, heavy cast bases, hand-cut screw threads, and original mechanical components such as friction thumb-screws or telescopic collars. Original electrical fittings often show historic age or evidence of sympathetic rewiring.

Place the lamp alongside an armchair or reading desk to provide targeted task lighting. The warm metallic tone complements dark timber furniture, neutral textiles, and contemporary muted wall palettes.

Clean the brass stem and base regularly with a soft dry cloth to prevent dust accumulation. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that remove natural patination, and ensure electrical flex and plugs comply with modern safety standards.
