A pair of nineteenth-century Jacobean revival table lamps fashioned from dark brown oak, complete with terracotta-pink fabric lampshades still wrapped in protective plastic. Each piece displays a turned column with a barley twist stem rising from a circular stepped base, paired with a tapered shade. One lamp retains a brown electrical cord with an inline switch resting on the surface. These items measure 66 cm high. Such traditional fixtures suit display upon a sideboard top within an English country house interior. They bring antique warmth to a living room, dining room, or hallway when positioned on a timber console or side table. The rich grain of the dark wood and the vibrant colour of the shades offer a classic combination for domestic illumination.

A barley twist table lamp features a central stem carved or turned in a helical, rope-like motif, a style popularised in 17th-century Jacobean furniture and widely revived during the Victorian era.

These lamps were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring lathe-turned central columns mounted onto weighted circular or stepped bases.

Authentic period examples often display subtle variations in the hand-turned spiral, original rewiring adaptations from gas or oil, and natural patination within the deep grooves of the twist stem.

A symmetrical pair functions effectively when positioned at opposite ends of a sideboard, on matching bedside tables, or framing a sofa on side tables to introduce warm light and historical texture.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply clear beeswax polish once or twice per year, avoiding harsh chemicals or liquid solvents that could strip the finish.
