Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. This Victorian display cabinet comes in dark brown mahogany and stands 104 cm high, 111 cm wide, and 29 cm deep, with a top moulding depth of 34 cm. It takes the form of a pair of twin glazed doors fitted with arched glazing bars and moulded cockbeading, set beneath a moulded cornice. The interior contains painted green shelves. Originally functioning as the upper section of a bureau bookcase, this piece works as either a wall-mounted cabinet or a freestanding unit within a domestic setting. The timber displays natural grain patterns, while the glass panels offer clear visibility into the interior storage space.

FAQs

Victorian glazed cabinets are 19th-century storage pieces featuring timber frames, glass-paned doors, and structured interior shelving. They often incorporate architectural detailing, such as moulded cornices and decorative astragal glazing bars.

These cabinets were typically constructed using hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, combined with hand-cut glass panes. Joinery techniques included hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon framing, and hand-applied timber veneers.

Authentic pieces generally display signs of hand-planed timber, original brass hardware, cut nails, and slight irregularities in glass panes consistent with 19th-century manufacturing methods. The underside and back panels usually show unpolished, rough-sawn wood.

A Victorian glazed cabinet can be integrated into modern settings as a focal storage unit for books, glassware, or ceramics. Painting the interior in a contrasting shade highlights displayed items while bridging historical and contemporary aesthetic elements.

Dust the exterior timber regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply beeswax periodically along the grain to preserve the wood finish. Glass panes should be cleaned with a mild glass cleaner applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed onto the frame.
