Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late Victorian Edwardian piano stool takes the form of a solid dark brown mahogany box seat with a lift-up lid offering internal storage. The show wood displays deep reddish-brown tones and a warm sheen, complemented by a padded seat upholstered in vibrant yellow velvet with decorative braided trim. Rococo style influences shape the piece, showing carved cabriole legs terminating in claw feet, scrolling side handles with turned reeding, and a carved shell motif centered on the apron. Measuring 62 cm high, 63 cm wide, and 38 cm deep, the stool sits comfortably at the foot of the bed in a bedroom, or functions as a decorative and practical seat in a hallway or living room. The frame remains stable and ready for domestic use.

FAQs

An antique mahogany piano stool is a specialised seating item crafted from mahogany timber, designed specifically for use at a keyboard or piano. Originating in the 18th and 19th centuries, these stools often feature adjustable heights or hinged seats with interior storage compartments for sheet music.

Traditional piano stools were constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut for structural durability. Upholstery typically incorporated horsehair or flock padding covered in velvet, tapestry, or leather, secured with gimp braid or brass studs.

Authentic period piano stools display hand-carved details, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and natural surface wear on the timber finish. Inspecting hardware such as original brass piano hinges, interior lining, and hand-turned or cabriole legs helps establish age.

An antique piano stool functions effectively as accent seating in a hallway, alongside a dressing table, or placed at the foot of a bed. The warm timber tones and upholstered seat provide a textural element in modern living spaces.

Dust mahogany wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish annually to maintain the timber finish. Vacuum velvet upholstery using a low-suction soft brush attachment, avoiding liquid solvents that may cause water spotting or fibre damage.
