This tall table lamp originates from the Anglo-Indian style of the 1910 period. Constructed from heavy brass, the piece exhibits an antique gold colour with visible tarnishing across its metallic surface. The design incorporates a slender tapered column decorated with hand-engraved and etched figurative motifs, alongside decorative turned mouldings at the top and base. Below the column sits a wide, stepped circular base with a raised rim and distinct circular moulding details leading down to a flat foot. At the very top, a standard metal lamp holder fitting projects upwards for electrical wiring. The piece stands at 78 cm high. Suitable for placement on a sideboard top, this lamp fits naturally into a Glastonbury Boho living room scheme, adding metallic texture and traditional craftsmanship to an interior surface as a statement lighting accent.

Indian brass lighting objects originate from centuries of regional metalworking traditions, where artisans crafted vessels, oil lamps, and candlesticks using casting and hand-chasing techniques. During the late 19th and 20th centuries, many of these turned and etched column forms were produced both for local domestic use and for export to European markets.

These lamps are typically manufactured from solid cast or turned brass alloys, featuring hand-etched, chased, or engraved figurative and floral motifs across the central column. The bases are often constructed with wide stepped drippans or circular plinths to provide stability for tall upright designs.

Authentic pieces display hand-chased surface details where slight variations in depth and pattern alignment are visible under close inspection. Look for turned seams, manual casting marks, consistent oxidisation in recessed details, and evidence of historic conversion to modern electrical fittings.

Position the lamp on a timber sideboard, console, or side table alongside contemporary textured fabrics to create contrast. Pair with a simple neutral linen or silk shade to balance the detailed engraved metalwork.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth or gentle brush to clear dirt from recessed hand-engraved details. Avoid harsh chemical polishes or abrasive metal cleaners that can remove natural age patina and strip dark oxidisation from carved lines.
