Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

This Victorian Sitzendorf porcelain oil lamp dates from 1900 and functions as an ornamental desk or mantelpiece accessory. The piece comprises a circular porcelain base with applied foliage and flowers in green, pink, yellow and orange, supporting three sculpted cherub or putti figures around a basketweave-textured spherical body adorned with applied flowers and leaves. A black-finished metal burner with a dial sits above the porcelain body, holding an upright clear glass chimney. The base measures 38 cm high, 19 cm wide and 19 cm deep. A buyer might place this lamp on a prominent mantelpiece, side table or console table in a traditional living room or study to serve as a decorative focal point.

FAQs

Sitzendorf porcelain originates from Thuringia, Germany, where production began in the mid-nineteenth century, becoming renowned for ornate figurative pieces and applied floral decorations during the late Victorian era.

These lamps combine hand-painted hard-paste porcelain bases with brass or iron burner mechanisms and clear glass chimneys or shades.

Authentic pieces often feature underglaze factory markings, such as the crown or crossed hatch marks, along with intricate hand-modelled details like putti and encrusted flowers.

Place the lamp on a mantelpiece, console, or side table to serve as a sculptural accent that adds historical detail to contemporary or traditional rooms.

Dust gently using a soft, dry artist brush to clean around delicate figures and applied flowers, avoiding liquid cleansers that might damage unglazed areas or gilding.
