This Art Deco stool originates from 1930 and demonstrates period British craftsmanship. The piece comprises a warm brown birds eye maple frame with a waterfall curved shape, complemented by walnut cross banding along the edges. The padded cream leather seat features a studded dark braid trim around the perimeter. Visible details include the prominent wood grain patterns across the polished timber surfaces and the clean upholstery finish. Measuring 52 cm high, 70 cm wide, and 40 cm deep, the stool functions practically as a dressing seat or an end-of-bed stool in a bedroom or dressing room interior today. The compact dimensions allow it to sit easily beneath a dressing table or vanity unit.

Art Deco seating, originating in the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by geometric forms, streamlined curves, and the application of distinctive veneers such as birds eye maple or walnut combined with tailored upholstery.

Cabinetmakers frequently utilised figured timber veneers, including birds eye maple and burr walnut, laid over solid hardwood frames, complemented by leather, velvet, or woven fabric upholstery secured with decorative trim.

Authentic period pieces feature genuine timber veneers displaying subtle age-related patina, traditional joinery techniques underneath the frame, and construction free from modern synthetic materials or pneumatic staples.

An Art Deco stool functions as an occasional seat beside a vanity unit, positioned at the foot of a bed, or placed adjacent to a lounge armchair as an accent footrest.

Maintain timber surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry cloth and applying natural beeswax polish, while leather elements should be conditioned periodically and positioned away from direct heat sources.
