Early Victorian silver, produced roughly between 1837 and 1850, often bridges late Georgian classical restraint with the burgeoning exuberance of later Victorian ornamentation, featuring refined hand-raised forms and crisp hallmarks.

These items were traditionally crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as hammering, casting, and hand-chasing, frequently paired with fitted blue glass liners to protect the metal from acidic condiments.

Authenticity is verified by checking for clear British hallmarks stamped on the metal, including the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling standard, the leopards head for London assay, and a date letter corresponding to the year of production.

Antique silver pieces add a touch of reflective brilliance and historical contrast when displayed on open shelving, dining sideboards, or mixed into modern tablescapes alongside minimalist ceramics and glassware.

Preserve antique silver by storing it in low-humidity environments, washing it gently with mild soap and warm water when necessary, and using specialised silver polish sparingly to maintain the original patina and hallmark clarity.
