This pair of heavy brass standard lamps dates from the early twentieth century in the Rococo Revival style. Each piece stands with an electrical fitment atop a reeded, knopped, foliate cast, and fluted shaft, descending to a spreading lobed base raised on six domed feet. The silvered brass surfaces display repousse decoration and detailed turned baluster stems, paired with cream domed fabric shades finished with delicate fringed edging. Measuring 163 cm high by 51 cm in diameter, these floor-standing lighting fixtures incorporate newly handmade silk shades and are rewired with authentic corded flex, complete with a foot or finger clicker switch and PAT testing. Placed in an empty corner of a traditional living room, study, or drawing room, these lamps provide both ambient illumination and a strong decorative statement. The elaborate casting and substantial presence suit formal interiors, while the neutral cream and silver tones complement a range of historic and classic colour schemes. Designed for domestic placement, the pair operates safely with modern electrical standards while retaining a decorative Victorian and Gothic aesthetic.

A standard lamp is a tall, free-standing floor lamp supported by a vertical pole or column, designed to provide ambient or directional light in a room.

Antique standard lamps were predominantly constructed from solid brass, bronze, nickel-plated metals, turned timber, or wrought iron, often paired with tailored silk or fabric shades.

Authentic period pieces feature heavy cast bases, hand-chased or repousse decorative details, threaded metal joinery, and evidence of original rewiring or early electrical fittings.

Positioning a pair of standard lamps symmetrically beside a sideboard or flanking a sofa adds structural height, warm illumination, and classical proportion to contemporary living spaces.

Clean the metal column using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to avoid removing delicate patination or lacquer, and clean fabric shades gently with a low-suction soft brush attachment.
