This Regency period open bookcase uses rosewood veneer in dark brown with prominent figure patterns across its flat timber surfaces. The rectangular upper section has a leading edge containing brass inlay, sitting above a frieze centred by an ormolu mount with winged leaf motifs. Two wide open shelves contain rows of books in red, brown and green leather bindings. The structure is flanked by turned side columns decorated with ribbed ormolu mounts at the top and bottom sections. The whole framework is raised on shaped bracket feet with curved profiles at the base corners. Measuring 91 cm high, 108 cm wide and 41 cm deep, the unit provides compact storage for a home library or study space. In a contemporary interior, this piece works well placed against a wall in a sitting room or positioned within an elegant bedroom to hold reference volumes and decorative items.

Originating in the early 19th century during the British Regency era, open bookcases feature classical proportions, low heights, and rich timber veneers such as rosewood or mahogany, often designed to display leather-bound volumes.

Craftsmen typically utilised exotic timbers like rosewood or mahogany, decorated with brass stringing, cast metal mounts, and sturdy internal shelf supports.

Authentic pieces exhibit fine brass embellishments, hand-carved classical details, active rosewood grain veneers, and period-appropriate hand-cut joinery.

Position the piece along an accent wall or corridor, pairing the dark timber tones with neutral backdrop shades, ambient lamps, and curated decorative items alongside books.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent drying or discolouration, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply beeswax polish sparingly.
