Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

This Victorian gentleman's accessory set comprises a sterling silver curb link watch chain, a T-bar attachment, a swivel clasp, a pierced shield fob, and an engraved rectangular vesta case. The silver components exhibit a polished metallic finish, complemented by a gold accent wash on the shield fob and delicate foliate engraving across the surface of the vesta case. Birmingham and Chester hallmarks appear on the various elements, alongside maker marks for Charles Daniel Broughton and J & R Griffin. Each chain measures 23 cm in length, inclusive of the T-bar and clasp, and the ensemble carries a total weight of 83 g. Collectors display such pieces within desk accessories or gentlemen's library collections, or incorporate them into period display cabinets. The set serves as a historical example of late-nineteenth and early-twentieth-century silversmithing, suitable for study or curated antique collections. The components remain complete with their original hardware, retaining their structural form and traditional decorative motifs without modern alterations.

An Albert watch chain is a functional piece of Victorian mens jewellery designed to secure a pocket watch to a waistcoat buttonhole, often accompanied by an attached vesta case for carrying matches.

These items were typically crafted from sterling silver or gold, featuring solid curb-link chains, hand-engraved scrollwork, and hallmarked fittings such as T-bars and swivel clasps.

Authentic period examples generally display silver hallmarks stamped on individual chain links, the T-bar, and the interior rim of the vesta case, along with natural wear around the connecting jump rings.

While traditionally worn across waistcoats, these chains are frequently repurposed in contemporary fashion as unique necklaces, charm bracelets, or decorative accessories attached to jacket lapels.

Silver components should be cleaned gently using a dry, soft microfiber cloth or specialised silver polishing cloth, avoiding chemical dips that remove intentional historical oxidisation from engraved details.
