This George V trinket box originates from Birmingham in 1922 during the early twentieth century. The piece combines a plain polished sterling silver pull-off domed lid with a bell-shaped cranberry glass base. The glass body is decorated with polychrome enamel scrollwork and floral motifs in shades of purple, blue, and orange. Hallmarks are visible on the silver collar, and the interior base shows a smooth pontil mark. The trinket box measures 3.5 cm high by 7.5 cm wide by 7.5 cm deep. Placed on a bedside table in a modern home, it serves as a functional container for small daily accessories such as rings, earrings, or cufflinks while adding a touch of decorative colour to the surface.

Cranberry glass, created by adding gold chloride to molten glass, was popularised in the 19th and early 20th centuries. These small boxes frequently featured sterling silver lids and enamel decoration for use on vanity tables.

Glassmakers formed the vessel using hand-blown or molded glass, often adding hand-painted enamel ornamentation. Silversmiths then fitted custom sterling silver collars and lids, which were stamped with official assay hallmarks.

Authentic pieces feature British hallmarks stamped into the silver, including the town mark (such as an anchor for Birmingham), the lion passant indicating sterling purity, and a specific date letter corresponding to 1922.

Place the item on a marble tray atop a bathroom vanity, on a bedroom dressing table, or alongside stacked books on a bedside table to introduce subtle colour and historical texture.

Wipe the glass gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals or submerging in water to protect the hand-applied enamel. Clean the silver lid using a dedicated silver polishing cloth without touching the painted glass.
