Silver christening sets gained immense popularity during the Victorian era as traditional gifts presented by godparents to newborns, symbolising wealth, good fortune, and a prosperous future.

These sets are typically fabricated from sterling silver, denoted by traditional city assay office hallmarks, and frequently feature hand-engraved foliate or scroll motifs alongside fitted presentation cases lined with silk and velvet.

Authenticity is verified by examining the stamped hallmarks on the pieces, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark for sterling silver, a date letter indicating the year of assay, and a duty mark.

Antique silver pieces can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, utilized as table centrepieces, or styled on open shelving to introduce metallic textures and historical character into modern living spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a specialized, non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfiber cloth, and stored in a tarnish-resistant environment to maintain its surface integrity.
