Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Art Nouveau pokerwork, also known as pyrography, is a decorative technique involving the burning of designs into wood, which reached peak popularity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as part of the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements.

These cabinets were typically crafted from light-coloured timbers such as sycamore, beech, or maple to provide a high-contrast canvas for the heated metal stylus used to burn organic motifs into the wood surface, often supplemented with hand-tinted watercolours.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit characteristic hand-burned depth variations, natural ageing and patination of the timber, and distinct organic motifs such as whiplash lines, stylized flora, and landscapes typical of turn-of-the-century craftsmanship.

Mounting the piece at eye level against a neutral or contrasting dark wall allows the intricate pyrography details to serve as a focal point, pairing well with both period-inspired rooms and modern eclectic spaces.

Preservation requires keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity to prevent warping or fading, dusting gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth, and avoiding chemical polishes or water.
