Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Gothic Revival bookcase consists of a dark brown oak structure comprising a glazed upper cabinet and a lower storage unit. The upper section contains two glazed doors shaped with lancet arches, opening to reveal internal shelving, beneath a perforated frieze and a crenellated top gallery finished with carved corner finials. The lower cupboard exhibits four panels of pierced carved tracery above a moulded plinth base, accented by carved vertical pilasters and simple metal hardware. Measuring 267 cm high by 162 cm wide and 61 cm deep, the piece provides substantial storage capacity. Positioned against a wall in a study, library, or living room, the bookcase functions as practical display and storage furniture for books or decorative collections. The dark timber finish and architectural motifs create a strong traditional presence suitable for period-styled interiors.

FAQs

Gothic Revival furniture draws inspiration from medieval architecture, featuring prominent structural motifs such as lancet arches, trefoils, blind tracery, and crenellated cresting.

These pieces were typically crafted from solid timbers such as oak or walnut, utilizing hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, hand-carved decorative panels, and mouth-blown glass panes.

Authenticity is indicated by evidence of hand-tooling, original brass or wrought iron fittings, structural wear consistent with age, and unvarnished timber showing natural oxidisation on the underside and back panels.

Position the piece against a neutral backdrop to highlight its architectural silhouette, and balance its visual weight with contemporary minimalist decorative accents.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft dry cloth and apply a thin layer of natural beeswax polish annually to protect the wood finish and prevent the timber from drying out.
