Edwardian silver casters were produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, a period often characterised by neoclassical revival designs influenced by the Eighteenth Century, featuring lighter and more refined ornamentation than the preceding Victorian era.

These items were crafted from sterling silver, typically conforming to the 925 standard, and manufactured using techniques such as spinning, piercing, chasing, and casting, often finished with detailed finials and removable pierced lids.

Authenticity is verified by examining hallmarks struck into the metal, which typically include the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, the town mark for the assay office, and a date letter corresponding to the specific year of manufacture.

An antique silver caster can be integrated into contemporary dining or living spaces by placing it as a focal point on a sideboard, dining table centre, or within a glass-fronted display cabinet to add metallic texture and historical contrast.

Preservation involves storing the silver in a low-humidity environment, handling it with clean gloves to prevent skin oils from causing tarnishing, and using non-abrasive silver polishes sparingly only when necessary to maintain the patination.
