Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large nineteenth-century floor candelabra in the Gothic Revival style provides a striking vertical accent for an interior space. The heavy, blacksmith-made wrought iron piece is finished in dark charcoal and holds four candles across a horizontal crossbar frame mounted with pricket sconces, alongside a central spire finial. Notable details include a twisted central stem, an arched four-legged base with curved feet, and sturdy vertical supports. Measuring 153 cm high, 51 cm wide, and 51 cm deep, the floor-standing torchère functions effectively in an empty corner to bring height and a warm candlelight source to a living room, hallway, or dining space. Its Victorian design character integrates seamlessly into traditional or eclectic interior schemes where ambient lighting is desired.

FAQs

A floor torchere is a tall, free-standing light fixture or candle stand designed to elevate illumination within a room, historically originating in medieval and Renaissance interiors.

Traditional torcheres were hand-forged from wrought iron using blacksmithing techniques, incorporating twisted central columns, collar joins, riveted crossbars, and hand-hammered sconces.

Authentic wrought iron features slight surface irregularities, visible hammer marks, joined or riveted metal sections, and a natural aged patina rather than uniform modern powder coatings.

Position an iron floor torchere in an empty corner, within a fireplace alcove, or near an entryway to introduce vertical structure and soft ambient lighting to modern spaces.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry cloth and apply a light coat of microcrystalline wax or beeswax polish periodically to protect against moisture and preserve the oxidised finish.
