Very Quirky Antique Pine Cupboard Unit with Drawers (Partially Dismantles)

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Pinefinders
Description

Here’s a wonderful and slightly quirky piece of furniture with plenty of character. It features a neat Cornish top with a small decorative hanging detail below, a small cupboard with a shelf inside, a larger cupboard door on the right, four drawers down the left-hand side, and a full-width drawer at the bottom.

The piece is in excellent condition—almost perfect, very clean and tidy. Originally painted, it has since been stripped back to bare wood. The right-hand cupboard is currently empty, though you can see where shelves were once fitted. We can easily add shelves or a hanging rail if you’d like. The internal depth on that side is 18", making it deep enough for hanging most clothes. A shelf with a hanging rail underneath is also an option.

All drawers on the left-hand side work smoothly, and the top drawer includes removable plywood dividers. The wardrobe retains its original brass drop handles, adding to its charm.

It also separates for easier delivery—the top section lifts off, and the main body divides into two parts. The largest piece is the right-hand section, so if that fits up your stairs, you’ll have no trouble getting it in.

Available for £1,500 as it is, or £1,695 if you’d like it waxed.

Dimensions: height 84", width 55", depth 22", internal depth 18" (approximately 213 cm x 140 cm x 56 cm, internal depth 46 cm).

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1920 Victorian Country combination cupboard unit is made from pine with a warm brown bare wood finish and original brass drop handles. The design includes a moulded cornice, an arched niche above the open alcove, a panelled right-hand door, and a neat Cornish top with a small decorative hanging detail below. Four small drawers sit on the left side of the unit above a full-width base drawer, while an upper cabinet with double doors is positioned on the upper left. The timber shows clean stripped surfaces with visible wood grain, and the entire structure measures 213 cm high, 140 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. In a home today, this versatile storage piece works well in a bedroom, hallway, or utility space for organising clothes, linens, and household items. The right-hand side provides tall internal space for coats and garments, while the bank of smaller drawers accommodates folded apparel, accessories, or paperwork. The cabinet can be positioned against any standard room wall to add rustic farmhouse character and practical storage to an interior layout.

FAQs

A combination cupboard is a multi-functional storage piece featuring a mix of full-length wardrobe hanging space, smaller cupboards, and integrated drawers, widely produced during the 19th century for domestic storage.

These cupboards were typically constructed from solid pine timber featuring hand-dovetailed drawer joints, tongue-and-groove panelled backboards, moulded cornices, and metal or wooden pull handles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-sawn timber marks, natural wood shrinkage along panel joins, historical wear around keyholes and drawer runners, and traditional joinery rather than modern screws or fasteners.

Place the unit in a bedroom, spacious hallway, or utility space alongside neutral linen textiles, warm modern lighting, and natural flooring to create a balanced contrast between historic timber and contemporary decor.

Position the piece away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage, dust regularly with a clean microfibre cloth, and apply a high-grade clear beeswax polish annually to protect the surface.
