Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain is a type of Japanese export porcelain produced in the town of Arita, in the Hizen province of northwestern Kyushu. It became prominent during the Edo period in the late 17th century, driven by European export demand through the Dutch East India Company.

Authentic Imari pieces are crafted from high-fired porcelain clay and traditionally characterised by an underglaze cobalt blue and an overglaze iron red, complemented by highlights in gilt gold and occasionally green, aubergine, and yellow enamel details.

Authentic antique pieces typically exhibit hand-painted motifs, slight iron-spotting in the glaze, variations in pigment thickness under magnification, and often feature underglaze blue maker marks or spur marks on the unglazed foot rim from firing.

These vibrant plates can be displayed on plate stands within bookcases, mounted securely on walls as part of a gallery display, or used as statement accents on a sideboard to introduce rich colour and historical texture.

Antique porcelain should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild, non-abrasive detergent, avoiding dishwashers entirely. Care must be taken to protect the delicate overglaze enamel and gilt highlights from scratching or chemical erosion.
