Snake motifs gained immense popularity during the Victorian era after Prince Albert presented Queen Victoria with an engagement ring shaped like a serpent featuring an emerald-set head, symbolising eternal love, wisdom, and rebirth.

Authentic pieces from this era are frequently crafted from 18-carat yellow gold and often feature gemstones such as rubies, diamonds, or garnets set into the head of the serpent, accompanied by British hallmarks indicating purity and assay office origin.

Identification involves examining the construction techniques, such as hand-engraved detailing, closed-back settings where applicable, natural wear patterns, and authentic period hallmarks rather than laser engraving or modern casting marks.

Historic pieces can be worn as standalone statement items, stacked alongside contemporary minimalist bands to create contrast, or paired with tailored modern attire to add historic depth and character.

Preservation requires storing pieces individually in soft pouches to prevent scratching, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or ultrasonic baths, and having settings inspected periodically by a professional conservator.
