The George III period, spanning from 1760 to 1820, is characterised by refined classical proportions, architectural influences, and the prominent use of high-quality timbers like mahogany, often reflecting the neoclassical designs of cabinet makers such as Thomas Chippendale and Sheraton.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods, joined with traditional hand-cut dovetails and pegged joints, frequently topped with imported marble slabs for added durability and luxury.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-planed timber surfaces, secondary woods in drawer linings or backboards, traditional tool marks, patination consistent with age, and structural joinery that predates modern machine manufacturing.

An antique mahogany piece grounds a contemporary space by introducing rich warmth and texture; balance the dark wood by styling shelves with neutral-toned books, minimalist ceramics, and brass or bronze decorative objects.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying periodic applications of microcrystalline wax, and protecting the marble top from acidic liquids that can etch the polished stone surface.
