We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hall lanterns originated in European country houses and townhouses during the 18th and 19th centuries, designed primarily to illuminate entrance halls, staircases, and vestibules before the widespread adoption of electrical lighting.

Authentic period lanterns are typically constructed using cast brass, bronze, or gilded metal frameworks fitted with hand-blown curved or flat glass panels, joined using traditional solder and mechanical fasteners.

Authentication involves examining the composition of the metal for period-appropriate casting techniques, inspecting the glass for handmade imperfections like bubbles or waviness, and checking the wiring and fittings for signs of age and historical conversion.

An antique lantern serves as a striking focal point in an entryway or hallway, bridging traditional and contemporary aesthetics by adding historical texture and warm metallic contrast to minimalist or transitional schemes.

Gilded surfaces should be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth to avoid damaging the delicate metallic leaf. Glass panels can be cleaned using a mild glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than sprayed directly onto the fixture to protect the metal.
