Description

A quality late Victorian oak piano stool with a finely upholstered hinged seat opening to a sizeable storage compartment, all flanked by beautifully turned raised handles to each side. The stool stands on particularly attractive tapering ring-turned legs.

The seat is upholstered in a later deep blue fabric finished with decorative braid. Practical as well as decorative, it shows robust oak construction with traditional late Victorian detailing. Equally suited to its original purpose as a piano stool, as an occasional seat in the home or for use at a dressing table.

Presented in very good antique condition with a warm patina and minor surface wear consistent with age. The upholstery is perfectly clean and in good order. Structurally all solid and ready to place in the home.

English, circa 1890.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), characterised by a revival of historic styles, heavy woods, ornate carvings, and practical innovations like built-in storage.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, featuring turned wooden legs, upholstered seats in velvet or tapestry, and internal wooden compartments for sheet music.

Authenticity is indicated by period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional wood shrinkage, genuine patina on the hardware and timber, and historical upholstery techniques beneath modern fabric.

A piano stool functions effectively as a versatile accent piece, serving as extra seating in a living room, a compact vanity seat, or an entryway drop spot while adding historical texture to contemporary spaces.

Preserve the timber by applying microcrystalline wax periodically, keeping the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and vacuuming upholstered sections gently with a soft brush attachment.
