This Victorian dressing stool originates from around 1850 in the Victorian style. The piece comprises a walnut frame supporting an upholstered top with a concave seat covered in geometric tapestry fabric in shades of pink, green, and cream, finished with twisted trim cord along the edge. The warm brown timber frame stands on four carved cabriole legs with carved knees and scroll feet. Measuring 43 cm high, 58.5 cm wide, and 43 cm deep, it provides a compact seating option for a bedroom. In a contemporary home, this stool suits placement at the foot of the bed, in front of a dressing table, or as an accent seat in a living room. The sturdy construction accommodates daily use for dressing, putting on shoes, or resting feet. The traditional design fits easily into bedroom layouts where a low profile seat is required.

Victorian dressing stools were crafted during the nineteenth century, featuring shaped hardwood frames, curved cabriole legs, and low upholstered seats designed for vanity tables.

Frames were predominantly constructed from walnut, rosewood, or mahogany, while upholstery featured hand-stitched needlepoint, tapestry, or silk damask filled with natural hair padding.

Authentic pieces showcase hand-carved detailing, subtle natural patina, dark oxidisation in recessed carvings, and traditional joinery such as pegged mortise and tenon joints.

Position the stool at the foot of a bed, beneath a console table, or alongside an armchair to introduce period texture and contrasting timber curves.

Keep timber away from direct heat sources and apply beeswax regularly; vacuum fabric gently using a soft brush attachment and protect from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading.
