We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The William IV style spans the 1830s, acting as a transitional bridge between late Regency and early Victorian design, typically featuring robust classical proportions combined with heavy mahogany timbers and restrained ornamentation.

Authentic pieces from this period were primarily constructed using solid dark hardwoods like mahogany, often paired with traditional stuffing materials such as horsehair, wool, and linen webbing.

Authentication involves examining hand-cut joinery, the density and patina of the mahogany timber, traditional hand-turned leg profiles, and period-appropriate upholstery methods underneath the dust cover.

This piece works effectively as a functional accent at the end of a bed or beneath a window, pairing natural linen textures with clean, modern architectural backdrops to create visual contrast.

Maintain the timber by applying microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the wood, and protect the linen upholstery from direct sunlight to prevent premature fading and fibre degradation.
