Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Arts and Crafts Movement bookcase is made from dark brown walnut. The top section contains twin glazed doors divided into a twelve-pane grid, backed in green fabric, and flanked by slender turned side supports under a flat moulded cornice. A decorative tassel hangs from the right door handle. The open lower section contains four compartments arranged across two tiers above a shaped plinth base with bracket feet. The dimensions are 168 cm high, 103 cm wide, and 26.5 cm deep. Walnut furniture from this period suits a gentleman's library, study, or living room. The glass doors protect books or display collections from dust, while the open lower compartments provide accessible storage for everyday volumes. The dark timber finish and simple rectilinear lines complement both traditional and modern interior schemes.

FAQs

The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in the late nineteenth century, emphasising honest hand-craftsmanship, visible joinery, and functional design over mass-produced industrial ornamentation.

Craftsmen favoured dense hardwoods such as oak, walnut, and mahogany, often incorporating hand-fitted joinery, glass panes, and fabric or velvet interior linings.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, subtle irregularities in glass panes, original brass fittings, and evidence of hand-planed timber surfaces.

Combine modern ceramics and framed artwork alongside leather-bound volumes inside the glazed upper cabinet, using the lower open shelves for oversized art books or storage baskets.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually, keeping the timber clear of direct heat sources and sunlight.
