Vanity jars with enamel and silver lids were staple accessories on dressing tables during the Edwardian and Art Deco periods, often produced by silversmiths in Birmingham and London.

These jars typically feature cut glass or crystal bases, sterling silver mounts, and vitreous enamel lids, frequently decorated with engine-turned guilloche patterns.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarks stamped on the silver mount, which indicate the assay office, silver standard, and year of manufacture, alongside the weight and clarity of the cut glass.

These decorative pieces add a touch of heritage and colour when displayed on dressing tables, open shelving, or bathroom counters alongside modern minimalist accessories.

Enamel should be wiped gently with a soft, damp cloth without submerging the piece, while silver components can be polished carefully using a non-abrasive cloth, avoiding contact with the enamel surface.
