Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A stacking barrister bookcase, also known as a lawyers bookcase, is a modular piece of furniture featuring multiple horizontal sections with upward-lifting glass doors, designed to protect books from dust while allowing the unit to be easily disassembled and moved.

These bookcases are traditionally constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, frequently utilizing quarter-sawn oak to display prominent medullary rays, and fitted with glass panes and brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces often feature makers marks or patent labels inside the sections, traditional joinery such as dovetailing on the drawers or carcase, older glass with minor imperfections or bubbles, and authentic brass knobs or pulls.

An antique wooden bookcase adds warmth and character to contemporary spaces when paired with minimalist furniture, utilized to display curated collections of books and objects, or placed against neutral walls to highlight its wood grain.

Maintenance involves dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, and periodically applying a quality beeswax polish to nourish the wood finish.
