Victorian scent bottles are characterised by intricate craftsmanship, often combining coloured glass such as cranberry or Bohemian glass with ornate sterling silver mounts, reflecting the elaborate decorative arts of the late 19th century.

These items were typically crafted using hand-blown or moulded coloured art glass, decorated with enamel or acid-etching, and fitted with hallmarked sterling silver screw caps or hinged lids.

Authenticity is verified by examining the silver components for clear hallmarks indicating the assay office, makers mark, and date letter, alongside period-appropriate glass characteristics like pontil marks and hand-applied decoration.

These small decorative objects can be displayed grouped on a mirrored vanity tray, within a glass-fronted cabinet, or placed on a dressing table to introduce a touch of period texture and reflective colour.

Preservation involves dusting the glass with a soft microfibre cloth and using specialised non-abrasive silver polish strictly on the metal components, avoiding harsh chemicals that could damage historical enamel or glass finishes.
