FAQs

Rummers were popular drinking vessels in Britain during the late 18th and 19th centuries, frequently used for ale, wine, or punch. Coloured glass, particularly green, gained immense popularity during the Victorian era due to advancements in chemical colouration techniques.

These pieces are typically crafted from potash or lead glass, mouth-blown into moulds or free-blown, and then finished with hand-cut facets or petal designs using a grinding wheel before being polished.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the base, minor surface imperfections or air bubbles within the glass matrix, and characteristic wear or scratching on the underside from historical use.

Displaying coloured glassware on open shelving, within glazed cabinets, or using them as statement vessels on a dining table adds depth, historical contrast, and vibrant colour reflection to contemporary spaces.

Antique glass should be washed strictly by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes to prevent thermal shock, and never placed in a dishwasher.
