Description

A late 19th C. Brass Chandelier that would have originally been gas lit.  It has 6 arms that will now take candles but the centre fitting has been converted to electric and will take one bulb.  It is quite intricate in style and is of good quality.  It is in good used condition, with some dints etc and there is one section of a bottom finial that is missing, but this does not detract from how it looks when it is hanging.

This item will require re-wiring.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Nineteenth-century chandeliers often reflect historical revival movements such as Gothic, Elizabethan, or Rococo, characterised by intricate metalwork and structural symmetry.

These fixtures were typically constructed from cast or forged brass, bronze, and sometimes iron, frequently featuring applied patinas and hand-finished details.

Authenticity is determined by examining casting techniques, joinery such as threaded rods or hand-cut screws, natural metal oxidisation, and wear patterns consistent with age.

Pairing a patinated metal fixture with minimalist modern decor creates a focal point that adds historical depth and textural contrast to contemporary spaces.

Preservation involves dusting with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip away the valuable historic patina.
