"Heritage Quality Without the High Street Mark-up"

Hodgson Antiques (www.hodgsonantiques.co.uk) has been in the antique trade and dealing independently since 2012. Based in Derbyshire countryside operating solely online, we specialise in antique and vintage lighting, table lamps, ceiling lights, chandeliers, wall lights and lanterns together with some selectively sourced decorative items. We source items from around the UK, Europe and the rest of the world.

We believe that acquiring exceptional, fully restored period lighting shouldn't require paying premium high-street showroom prices. By operating entirely online and focusing our resources into our own dedicated restoration workshop, we have completely reimagined the traditional antique gallery model. We have a significant structural pricing advantage over traditional brick-and-mortar storefronts, which enables us to offer the exact high quality and meticulous restoration you find in the high street showrooms – delivered directly from our workshop at transparent competitive trade prices passing substantial savings onto our customers.

All our antique lights are fully overhauled, professionally cleaned, rewired and PAT tested to UK standards ready for installation. They are supplied with period-style matching aged fixing brass screws, fittings.

Our lighting is safely wrapped in heavy-duty protective packaging and dispatched the next day via premium tracked courier within mainland UK (delivery charge applies at checkout). As an independent workshop, we highly appreciate direct bank transfers (BACS). If you prefer to pay directly via bank transfer, we will happily waive the delivery fee as a thank you. Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French chateau style chandelier dates from 1930 and is manufactured from warm bronze and brass metal. The lighting fixture displays six scrolling arms, an urn finial, and white candle sleeves with acanthus leaf details on the central stem and drip pans. Additional visual elements include fluted detailing on the lower central body, segmented links in the suspension chain, and stepped circular mouldings above each candle holder. Measuring 40 cm high, 59 cm wide, and 59 cm deep, the chandelier uses E14 candle-bulb fixtures and arrives fully rewired with ceiling fixings. It provides overhead illumination for a living room, dining room, or hallway in a traditional interior setting.

FAQs

French bronze chandeliers from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries are recognised for their symmetrical proportions, cast metal scrollwork, and classical architectural motifs such as acanthus leaves, urns, and fluted finials.

These light fixtures were traditionally produced using heavy cast bronze or brass, which was hand-finished, chased, and coated with a protective lacquer or chemical patination to achieve depth of colour.

Authentic period pieces feature lost-wax or sand-cast metalwork with distinct hand-chasing marks, substantial weight, cast threaded joinery rather than modern machine screws, and naturally aged surface patination.

Positioning a period bronze light above a minimalist dining table or within an entryway provides a focal contrast, balancing historic metalwork with clean modern lines and neutral colour palettes.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth and gently buff with a non-abrasive microcrystalline wax to protect the patination; avoid harsh chemical cleaners which strip the original finish.
