Description

I couldn't resist this beautiful scent bottle from the regency period...it is made from tortoiseshell and has the most delicate and intricate silverwork pattern to the case, with a silver cartouche engraved with the owners initials CJ....it still retains the original glass scent bottle and stopper, although I am not tempted to try and open it, as glass can become fragile with age....excellent condition and a very fine item to own.

English. C1800-20.

Dating primarily from the late 18th to the early 19th century, these delicate vessels were crafted for fashionable elites during the Regency era to carry aromatic vinegars or perfumes.

These pieces typically feature genuine tortoiseshell veneer over a rigid core, embellished with delicate silver pique work or inlaid silver wire scrolls, fitted with an inner glass stopper.

Authenticity is determined by examining the natural organic patterns and warm translucency of genuine tortoiseshell, hand-cut silver inlay work, and period-appropriate hand-blown glass inserts.

Display these miniature objects on a dressing table tray, a vanity counter, or within a glass-fronted cabinet to add historical texture and refined detail to a space.

Keep tortoiseshell away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent warping or cracking, and gently clean silver inlay using a soft, dry microfibre cloth.
