Neo-Classical fire grates are characterised by symmetrical forms, classical motifs such as urns and swags, and clean architectural lines inspired by ancient Greece and Rome.

These pieces were predominantly manufactured from durable cast iron, often complemented by brass finials or steel components to withstand high temperatures.

Authentic pieces typically display heavy sand-cast textures, hand-filed finishing marks, makers marks or registration numbers, and natural oxidisation consistent with age.

A cast iron fire grate adds industrial texture and historical grounding to a modern fireplace hearth, functioning as a focal point even without an active fire.

Maintenance involves removing ash regularly, brushing away soot with a soft bristle brush, and applying a microcrystalline wax or grate polish to prevent rust.
