Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This double-door glazed bookcase on stand belongs to the Queen Anne style and dates to 1910. Fabricated from burr walnut with an oak carcass and brass hardware, the piece displays a warm golden brown colour with distinctive grain patterns visible across the entire surface. The upper section has an arched pediment centred with a carved shell motif, glazed doors with astragal glazing bars enclosing three adjustable shelves, and end grain moulding. The separate lower base contains three drawers fitted with brass drop handles, a shaped apron centred by a carved shell, and stands on carved cabriole legs. Measuring 213 cm high by 128 cm wide with a 51 cm depth, this substantial storage unit splits into two sections for transport. Placed in a study, library or living room, the cabinet provides generous display and storage space for books and collections while serving as a statement furniture piece in traditional interior schemes.

FAQs

A bookcase on stand is a two-part storage cabinet featuring a glazed upper display section elevated by a lower stand, prominent in early 18th-century English furniture design.

These pieces were typically constructed with a solid timber frame faced with figured burr walnut veneers, brass hardware, and glass panels set within timber astragal glazing bars.

Look for characteristic details such as shaped or arched pediments, high-figured burr walnut veneer matching, cabriole legs with carved shells, and hand-cut drawer joinery.

Place the cabinet in a dining room or living space to display contemporary ceramics, books, or glassware, pairing warm wood tones against neutral background walls.

Clean glass surfaces with a microfibre cloth, apply high-grade beeswax to the timber annually along the grain, and maintain stable indoor humidity to prevent veneer lifting.
